Bethany Johnson, OCD and anxiety therapist in Columbus, Ohio who sees clients in person or online

Meet Bethany

I became a therapist because I love learning about the brain and I love listening. I’ve been a therapist for over eight years and I have walked alongside countless others who have felt buried with mental struggles. I’ve also seen what happens when they finally find a therapist who gets it.

After a while, I realized that there were clients who clearly met the diagnostic criteria for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and that diagnosis was missed for years by previous therapists and doctors. They thought that they had generalized anxiety or even panic disorder but had no relief with typical therapy and medication. They worriedly told me that they thought they must be a bad person for even having these troubling thoughts; not knowing that their intrusive thoughts were a very normal part of their brain causing these thoughts and not them causing the thoughts.

A light bulb went off and I knew that if there were an estimated one in forty people out there struggling with OCD, I was going to be the best specialist I could be for those people. I decided to get additional training for everything OCD related and I opened my own private practice focusing on OCD and related disorders in February of 2025.

For me, therapy isn’t just about talking. It’s about giving you practical, actionable steps so you can stop feeling stuck and start reclaiming your life. I want you to walk away from each session with a sense of clarity and empowerment.

My Approach

I have specialized experience and training in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders, using the gold-standard treatment of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).

That means:

  • No fluffy “just think positive” advice.

  • No endless venting & reassurance without actionable progress.

  • Real, research-backed strategies that retrain your brain and give you freedom from the cycle of fear.

I also have specialized training for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (CBT-BDD), trichotillomania (ComB Model) and emetophobia (ERP for Emetophobia) so you’ll walk away not just with insight but with skills you can use in your everyday life.

A Little About Me

When I’m not in session, you can usually find me outside in nature, curled up with my dogs, coffee and a good book, journaling, in a book store or planning my next trip somewhere sunny. I am a former foster parent & one of my favorite roles is being an aunt.

I bring that same love of warmth, peace, and balance into my therapy room, creating a space where you can breathe easier and be yourself.
